The founder of the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences, Pilani, Shri Ghanshyamdas Birla had a dream. His vision was to establish an Institute blending spirituality and personal growth into the process of learning saw its fulfillment with the establishment of this deemed Institute.
BITS Pilani is cut off from the hustle bustle of the city life, a secluded environment for growth and instruction unaffected by the problems plaguing the metros. Pilani is a small township 220 km west to Delhi and 217 km north to Jaipur known for the prestigious Institute spanning an area of 1000 acres. Peace, serenity and tranquility are synonymous with the kind of environment that is provided inside the campus of BITS, Pilani.
Intertwining serenity with spirituality brings in the uniqueness of this Institute. The former part of Maria Montessori’s quote “Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war” is being well implemented in the clean and green campus.
The clock tower which is the tallest building in the campus symbolizes the zenith which BITSians aspire to achieve. It is also a symbol of perfection, a symbol of the highest achievers, milestone breakers and idols.
The Saraswati temple in the campus is one of the famous white marble Birla temples which displays exquisite beauty of structure and it makes the campus a brilliant mix of spiritualism and science.
Shiv Ganga is a beautiful guest house surrounded by water on all four sides and was once the abode of Shri Rajendra Prasad.
Other than the architectural beauty of the BITS, Pilani campus, Mother Nature also showers her love in the form of beautiful peacocks scampering around the campus. The scurrying and scampering squirrels add to the beauty of the surroundings. This inimitable picturesque sight is pleasing to vision and also provides a mode of relaxation to students.
The Birla museum is a depiction of the Institute’s vision for science, flanked by the inspirational memorial of Shri Ghanshyamdas Birla on one side and an aeroplane prototype on the other in the Sky lawns. The contemporary science and modern technology is well depicted in all the sections of the museum.
The be all and the end all is that being isolated from city life does not isolate this little place from any kind of technology and innovation as it is known to be a “production house” of some of the finest quality highly paid engineers of the country. The environment of this campus is conducive to learning in all spheres of life.
